Overview
Module aims and purpose
This is a beginner鈥檚 Malay Language course designed for international students in Malaysia. This module focuses on conversational and functional speaking, and on grammar in Malay Language at Level 1 (CEFR).聽聽聽
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:
- Identify the sound system and the systems of Romanised spelling, vocabulary and grammar of Malay Language in simple sentences.
- Communicate in a variety of simple everyday situations using Malay language at a basic level.
- Arrange ideas systematically in short written essay.
Module content
Series of lectures covering the following main topics:
- Introduction: Pronunciation, Writing Skills and 糖心探花 Skills
- Conversation: Getting to know Someone聽
- Conversation: In the lecture hall
- Conversation: In a restaurant
- Conversation: In a library
- Conversation: At a hostel
- Conversation: At a bus station
- Grammar: nouns, personal pronouns, interrogative pronouns, adjectives, verbs, conjunctions, function words, emphasis words, modals.
Structure
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures and tutorials with two contact hours per week (or four if being delivered intensively during July intake across a period of seven weeks), with discussions and role play activities to enhance communication skills.聽 聽
Study hours
At least 20 hours of scheduled teaching and learning activities will be delivered in person, with the remaining hours for scheduled and self-scheduled teaching and learning activities delivered either in person or online. You will receive further details about how these hours will be delivered before the start of the module.
