Summary module description:
This is the second of three school experience modules. It provides students with further experiences of teaching and learning, in order to enable them to extend and consolidate the knowledge, skills and understanding learned in ED1SX1 (Year 1). ED2PS1, Professional Studies 2, is a co-requisite as it supports and prepares students for this placement across the year.听
Aims:
- To develop, at an appropriate level, the pastoral understanding, pedagogical skills, professional knowledge and criticality required of teachers. 听
- To further understand how educational theory functions in practice to develop children鈥檚 learning and to apply evidence-based approaches.
- To develop more responsive teaching and planning skills for 听using with small groups and the whole class.
- To develop the professional behaviours, standards and pro-activity expected of teachers, including effective teamwork.
Assessable learning outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- demonstrate they have made satisfactory progress towards all the curriculum assessment points as illustrated in the School Experience Assessment document for ED2SX1/Year 2.

Outline content:
The co-requisite module, ED2PS1, is drawn on so that content introduced there is explored on school placement. Key aspects include: statutory frameworks and safeguarding; children鈥檚 mental health; citizenship and British Values; curriculum design; assessment and feedback; adaptive teaching; the needs of specific groups of learners; behaviour management; and the learning environment. Subject specific content such as that introduced in the modules listed below is also explored.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The student will work alongside an experienced teacher and will implement the ideas and principles met during the taught modules ED2PS1, ED2AC1, ED2AC2, ED2AC3, ED2AC4, ED2EC1, ED2MS1& ED2PF1as well as drawing on the practice of their school. They will learn through: discussion; reflection; supported and unsupported observation of experienced teachers; mentor feedback; and gaining practical experience of teaching the whole class. They will also participate in wider school life and show en gagement with supporting pastoral concerns. The placement school experience involves 4 single day visits in the Autumn or Spring terms linked to subject specialism and a 7-week block school placement in the Summer term. The subject specialism visits are to provide an opportunity for the specific deepening of subject specialist expertise in practice. Students will be supported in school by a mentor, an Initial Teacher Training Co-ordinator (ITTCo) and a university supervising tutor.
