Summary module description:

This module covers the evidence-based theory for the treatment of depressive disorders and describes the evidence-based interventions required to effectively treat clients.Ìý


Aims:


  1. To train students to understand the evidence-based theory for depressive disordersÌý

  2. To teach students the theoretical basis for the treatment of clients with depressive disorders in an evidence-based way


Assessable learning outcomes:

ÌýStudents will be able to demonstrate the ability to:




  1. Understand evidence-based psychological theories and therapies for depressive disordersÌý

  2. To critically evaluate evidence-based psychological theories and treatment for depressive disorders


Additional outcomes:

Outline content:


  • Workshops equating to five full days on evidence-based psychological theory and treatments given by recognised national and international experts in the field. These workshops will include (but not limited to) topics such as:

    • Behavioural ActivationÌý

    • Chronic Depression

    • Guided DiscoveryÌý

    • Older Adults

    • Chronic pain

    • Socratic QuestioningÌý






  • Discussion groups and/or role-plays within the workshops to discuss the application of psychological theory to treatmentÌý

  3. Role-play exercises and discussion

  4. All teaching will take place in a group setting.Ìý
